Anti-corruption court grants Herbert Kabafunzaki bail

magistrate Agnes Alumu ordered Kabafunzaki to pay cash the Shs5 million shillings, deposit his diplomatic passport with court, as well as a tittle for his land situated at Ndejje, Kampala .
The anti-corruption court has granted bail to the state minister for labour and employment, Herbert Kabafunzaki, who is facing charges of soliciting and receiving a Shs5 million bribe from Muhammed Hamid, the proprietor of Aya group of companies. 
Chief magistrate  Agnes Alumu ordered Kabafunzaki to pay  cash the Shs5 million shillings, deposit his diplomatic passport with court, as well as a tittle for his land situated at Ndejje, Kampala .
Kabafunzaki is jointly charged with 2 other people; including Bruce Lubowa from Wakiso and Brian Mugabo, the minister's political assistant, who pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the commission of an offense. Mugabo informed court that he hid the said money to help his boss escape punishment.
According to the charge sheet, under count one, prosecution alleges that on April 8 at Kampala Serena Hotel, while in performance of his duties as the minister, Mr Kabafunzaki directly solicited for himself Shs15 million as a gratification from Mr Hamid in exchange for clearing his name from allegations of sexual harassment filed by a former employee.
In the second count, the State alleges that on the same day, the minister directly accepted Shs5 million as a gratification from Mr Hamid in exchange for clearing sexual harrasment allegations against him.
In count three, which was conspiracy to commit a felony; the State said between April 6 and April 8, the minister conspired with Mr Lubowa to solicit a gratification of Shs15 million from Mr Hamid for purposes of clearing his name.
