It was a slow, indulgent walk-off when, finally, Marcus Rashford was summoned to the bench – a saunter that provoked the fury of some of the home side’s players and told you that the 19-year-old in question who happened to be taking his own sweet time was completely at ease.
Rashford came to the rescue again in the competition which Manchester United cannot afford to fail, a teenage footballer whose critical interventions are dragging his team through the interminable rounds of the Europa League and towards the goal of Champions League qualification.
